<p>Rule one is start as you mean to go on. Getting your kid into a routine as early as possible will mean that they are used to it. Kids need structure and if you stick to your routine they will be a lot more amenable.</p>
<p>When you set a bedtime be realistic, setting it too early is asking for trouble as a child that is wide awake simply won&#8217;t settle. Put in place a routine so that they wind down, have a bath etc and are in their nightwear ready for bed at the right time. Stick with this and they will soon get the message.</p>
<p>Once they are older, make sure that they do all their homework, chores etc as soon as they get in from school so all their tasks for the day are completed.</p>

However, what I was not aware of was the fact that 10 mins of quick study was about to unlock the world for me on the guitar.</p>
<p>Guitar tab is a simple system that uses numbers to represent notes. I may not be able to offer you the ideal visible of this by means of just words, but at least I can offer you an overall concept of how this system works. On the neck of your guitar, you find something called a fretboard. The fret board is where you&#8217;ve seen folk place their fingers to produce chord sounds.</p>
<p>On the fretboard are some little pieces of wire that run from top to bottom. In between any two pieces of this wire is a space, and this is referred to as a fret. If you glance at the neck of a guitar, you can actually count out a whole bunch of fret spaces, going from left to right. You&#8217;ll also notice that these frets get smaller and smaller as you go up the neck. If you were to count them from left to right, naturally you would be asserting &#8220;1,2,3,4 etc&#8221;. Well each fret is represented by a number in guitar tab too.</p>
<p>The guitar has six strings. In tablature, each string is represented with a line. These lines are stacked on top of one another which appears more like the guitar neck. A number will appear on a particular line, letting you know which numbered fret to play, and on which string.</p>
<p>You also have other symbols that represent a way to produce certain sounds, and this in a lot of ways makes playing the guitar a load more expressive than just using standard musical notation. There are lots of other symbols and things to know, but again this will all be done in 1 or 2 minutes to learn and master guitar tab.
