How To Make Your Child Willingly Go To Bed

If you have a set bedtime for your child but they simply refuse to go, don’t despair, you aren’t the only one with this problem. Don’t resort to bribery or other tactics.

Instead, try some of the ideas that I have here for you. These are all tried and tested methods which have been proven to work. You’ll be surprised how easy they are to implement.

Rule one is start as you mean to go on. Getting your kid into a routine as early as possible will mean that they are used to it. Kids need structure and if you stick to your routine they will be a lot more amenable.

When you set a bedtime be realistic, setting it too early is asking for trouble as a child that is wide awake simply won’t settle. Put in place a routine so that they wind down, have a bath etc and are in their nightwear ready for bed at the right time. Stick with this and they will soon get the message.

Once they are older, make sure that they do all their homework, chores etc as soon as they get in from school so all their tasks for the day are completed.

It’s amazing how many kids suddenly remember a vital piece of homework at bedtime. By making them do these earlier you are giving them nothing to make excuses about, so bedtime means bedtime.

The last thing is not to let them have a television in their bedroom. Yes, you will get the complaints that all their friends have them, but don’t give in. Many a parent has shut a bedroom door to later discover that they have been watching TV for hours.

Stay calm and disciplined while doing these and you will succeed. It my not happen overnight but be patient and you will get there in the end.
