Body Odor Sufferers Can Use Skin Care To Solve Their Problems

Our body temperature is kept under control via a number of mechanisms, with a major one being sweat. Unfortunately sweat is also a prime factor in body odor so controlling this problem needs to involve in some way controlling the amount we sweat

So why do we smell bad if we sweat?

The first type of sweat we release comes from the eccrine glands and has no substantial odor. It is mainly water, a little bit of salt and some urea and sugar.

When this fluid moistens our skin it results in a softening of what is known as keratin which resides in the epidermal layer. This then provides bacteria with an opportunity to feed on this keratin with body odor being the undortunate result.

If this happens in an area like the armpit where more moisture is retained, then the severity of the odor is worsened.

The other release of sweat come from the apocrine glands which release a slightly fattier version of the fluid. These glands are located in the scalp, in the armpits and in the groin and the odor that is produced tends to be stronger.

Once again it is the work of the bacteria who are using the warmth and moisture of these areas to their advantage.

Therefore a major part of preventing body odor is to limit the amount of sweating that occurs in the body, and in particular those trouble spots where moisture is retained more easily.

You are not going to be able to stop sweating altogether, but if you can keep these areas dry by removing the moisture early then you are removing the ability for bacteria to become a problem.

How can you stop yourself from sweating

The most common method of reducing your sweat production is through the use of antiperspirants. Your first step would be to try a couple of over the counter versions, but if these are ineffective there are stronger versions available. Your doctor or pharmacist will be able to provide you with some advice here.

You also need to maintain impeccable levels of hygiene. Use anti-bacterial soap and make sure you fully dry yourself after every shower

And it is a good idea to wear light fitting clothes made of natural fibers. These allow for good circulation which helps keep you dry.
